What Podium does that ExperClinic does not

Where Podium has the edge

Honest list.If these features matter to your clinic, Podium is the right pick.

Bundled phone system, web chat, and payments.

Podium offers a unified business phone, a website chat widget that rolls into the same inbox, and integrated payment processing. ExperClinic does none of these. If you want all of these in one tool with one bill, Podium is a better fit.

Native dental practice management integrations.

Podium integrates with Dentrix, Open Dental, and Eaglesoft. ExperClinic does not currently integrate with any dental PMS; practices use CSV bulk import. If a real-time bidirectional integration is non-negotiable, Podium is the right pick.

Unlimited 1-to-1 text on every plan.

Podium does not meter per-message SMS the way ExperClinic does. For very high-volume practices that send thousands of one-off messages per month, the unmetered model can be cheaper, especially as you grow.

Lead consolidation from multiple inbound channels.

Podium aggregates webchat leads, Facebook messages, Google Business Profile messages, and SMS into a single inbox. ExperClinic's inbox is SMS-only. If your patient acquisition is multi-channel, Podium is broader.

What ExperClinic does that Podium does not

Where ExperClinic has the edge

Key differences that matter for clinics.

Sensitive-practice SMS variant.

For mental health, fertility, addiction counselling, oncology, EMDR, and 23 other sensitive specialties (28 in total), ExperClinic uses a context-free SMS template that omits the doctor's name and any clinical reference. A patient's locked phone screen never publishes that they see a therapist or fertility specialist. Podium does not ship an equivalent feature.

91 specialty-specific defaults.

Pick "general dentistry" and ExperClinic auto-applies 60-minute appointment defaults, 180-day reactivation, both reminders on, "Dr. / DDS" credentials. Pick "naturopathy" and you get 60-minute appointments, 90-day reactivation, "Dr. / ND" credentials, holistic SMS tone. Defaults you would otherwise spend hours configuring manually.

Same features on every plan.

ExperClinic's tiers differ in SMS quota and location count only. Every other capability (review automation, two-way SMS, reactivation, audit log, exports, multi-practitioner) is on every plan. Podium gates features behind tiers.

Transparent pricing, no sales call required.

$129, $249, $429, or computed Enterprise. You see the price. You sign up. You pay. Podium requires a sales conversation before you see a number.

No setup fees.

Sign up, import a CSV, send SMS the same day. ExperClinic charges $0 in setup fees. Podium's setup is bundled into custom quotes.

Per-practice STOP scoping.

When a patient texts STOP, ExperClinic scopes the opt-out to your practice only, not the patient's entire SMS history with other providers. This avoids accidental cross-practice unsubscribes when a patient sees multiple ExperClinic-using clinics.

FAQ

Common questions

Is ExperClinic actually a Podium alternative?
Yes, for clinics that want SMS review automation, two-way patient messaging, and appointment reminders. ExperClinic does not include the web chat, lead consolidation, or payment processing that Podium bundles. Practices that need a phone+chat+payments suite should pick Podium. Practices that want a focused clinic-specific SMS and review platform at half the price should pick ExperClinic.
Why is there no free plan for either?
Both platforms send SMS. SMS has a marginal cost (carrier fees per message) so a true free plan is uneconomic. ExperClinic offers a 30-day free trial with 100 SMS at no charge, no card required, which is enough volume to actually run the platform on real patients before deciding. Podium typically requires a sales call before access.
How does HIPAA compliance differ?
Both Podium and ExperClinic offer BAA signing for US healthcare providers. ExperClinic is built primarily for PIPEDA (Canadian privacy law) compliance, which is the strictest framework either platform contends with. Both store patient names and phone numbers; neither is a clinical record system. The day-to-day data handling is comparable. The main differentiator is that ExperClinic has a sensitive-practice SMS variant for mental health, fertility, and other privacy-sensitive specialties that Podium does not ship.
Can I migrate from Podium?
Yes. ExperClinic accepts CSV bulk import for patients (up to 5,000 per file) and appointments (up to 5,000 per file). Export your patient list from Podium, normalize the columns to first name, last name, phone, and import. Existing review history does not migrate; new review activity starts from the day you switch. Most practices migrate over a single weekend.
What is the trial like?
ExperClinic gives you 30 days and 100 SMS at no charge, with no credit card required. Sign up and start. Podium typically requires a sales conversation before you see the product. The trial difference is intentional: ExperClinic is product-led and self-serve. Podium is sales-led.
What if my dental clinic uses Dentrix or Open Dental?
Podium has native integrations with Dentrix, Open Dental, and Eaglesoft. ExperClinic does not currently integrate with any dental PMS. Practices use CSV bulk import to sync patients and appointments. If a real-time bidirectional sync is critical, Podium is the right pick. If a daily or weekly CSV export is acceptable, ExperClinic is workable and roughly half the price.
